Minutes from the May meeting

The West Coast PubFight League kicks off! If you have access to BNC SalesData, join up and show the world your mad publishing skillz. Time commitment is minimal: the auction, and then just a few minutes each week until January.

PubFight!
Pubfight is gearing up, and this time we want the West Coast to represent, yo. We’ll talk about it at tomorrow’s meeting, but for now you can go here and check out the details.
The Toronto teams have already started bidding, but BookNet is going to give us until the end of the month to get our teams together. Here’s the official announcement:
PubFighting on the West Coast!Are you ready to PubFight? If you have access to BNC SalesData and have always wondered why there were fantasy leagues for things like hockey and baseball but not one for book publishing, playing PubFight will be like coming home. The game begins in July 2008 and will run until January 2009. Your goal? Bid against your fellow league members to acquire real fall titles (with fake money) then manage your stock levels throughout the fall season to make sure you have enough on hand to match real sales, as tracked by BNC SalesData.The auction will happen in late July and all you have to do is be there! BookNet Canada will provide the list of titles and help you choose the rules of the game.

Just a reminder that our next meeting will be one week from today! Thursday, July 17, 7:30pm, at the Legion (main @ 23rd, southwest corner).
Along with the usual discussion, rants and beer we’ll also be announcing the very first of our Expert Talks! Yes, we have secured a special guest star to hang out with us and discuss the finer points of one aspect of our industry. Details will be unveiled at the meeting – see you there.

July Meeting

The last meeting was very productive – we’ve got a couple of key projects in mind (including mentoring, succession issues, and a few very cool ideas about health insurance!). At this upcoming meeting we’ll be putting together a to-do list and getting started on some of these projects. See you then!

I’m glad to report that Thursday’s meeting was very productive – and fun, too. Laraine and I are going over the minutes and will soon have a list of projects we’d like to get started on.
